Napa Wineries Aging Room

DINING

Breakfast --
Mount View Hotel
Since the hotel serves a complimentary and delicious breakfast.  We suggest that you take advantage of this and save your money for some great tasting experiences at Napa wineries.

Lunch --
Cindy's Backstreet Kitchen

For lunch we suggest you take a drive down to St. Helena so you don't miss Cindy's.  Visitors rave about the food, the service, and the quality.  Here's what one traveler had to say:
"Went for lunch and was amazed how quickly our food came out. It was wonderful. Service was completely attentive though they were packed. Never had to ask for anything. Portions were huge and delicious. My husband had the duck burger and I had a special of the day -- pulled pork BBQ. Both were huge and came with an enormous order of french fries. Cannot wait to go back whenever I am in wine country. This was one of many new restaurants I tried (and were disappointed with) except for Cindy's. It was a great experience."
Given the lack of great restaurant experiences in Calistoga, the drive's worth it.

Dinner --

Boskos Trattoria

Boskos Trattoria serves quality Italian food at great prices and is in keeping with the low key Calistoga vibe.  Here's a sample of what some of the visitors had to say:

"When thinking Italian in the small town of Calistoga I expectations were not that high. I was surprised to wrong. Service was great - the atmosphere was very casual and the setting is right in downtown Calistoga. The food was exceptionally good for such a small town."

"This was the best food we've had in the valley. We stayed seven days and we came here last. It should have been the first, maybe we wouldn't have wasted our time with over priced, stuffy restaurants. The Artichoke appetizer was simply the best. The wines were great."

"A group of us (7)had dinner at Boskos in Calistoga. The food was excellent, the service awesome, and they also had a great wine list. I had the lasagne, which was way too big for one person (could have been shared), but that just meant I got to enjoy it another night at home!"

Our reviewers had the same experience as those above.  If you're looking for a casual dinner with good food, this is the place.

Great Bar and Appetizers

BarVino

This is a great place to stop by for a little wine tasting and appetizers.  Hip, fun, and lively.  It's also a great place to finish off your evening with some tasty deserts and after dinner drinks.  The place is a little slicker than you'd usually find in Calistoga, but that's a good thing.

Even the website for Dutch Henry encourages keeping this find a secret:
"Shhhhh... Keep it on the down low.

Dutch Henry Winery is hands-down the best undiscovered secret in Napa Valley. We're a small family-owned and operated winery located on the original Silverado Trail in Calistoga. Specializing in artisan Bordeaux varietals in extremely limited release, we've quietly earned a reputation for quality, passion in winemaking and an easy-going approach to sharing our story with visitors to the winery."

"Established in 1992, Dutch Henry Winery produces approximately 5,000 cases annually. Noted for our signature hillside Napa Valley Estate Cabernet Sauvignon from Chafen Vineyards, the wines are carefully hand-crafted by owner-winemaker Scott Chafen. Varietals include Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Argos(Bordeaux Blend), Zinfandel, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc and Chardonnay.

We think that this visitor said it better than our own reviewers:

"Vincent Arroyo is a small boutique winery in Calistoga. It was recommended to us by the inn keeper at The Wayside Inn B&B. Vincent is usually there when we visit on weekends and he is a very personable winemaker. If it is not too busy, he often allows visitors to taste from the barrels. All of his wines are top notch and well worth effort of joining the futures waiting list. The Petite Sirah and Port are amazing. Though they are usually sold out, you might be lucky enough to taste them. The facilities may not be as spectacular as the bigger wineries in Sonoma and Napa, but that is part of the charm. Definitely visit this winery if you are in the Calistoga area, you will not be disappointed."  Note that you will need an appointment to tasting wine.

August Briggs Winery

Address: 333 Silverado Trail Calistoga, CA 94515
Tel: 707.942.4912
Fax: 707.942.5854
August Briggs Winery is one of those reason you taste wines in Calistoga.  It's small, family owned, welcoming, and makes great wines.  You can drop by without an appointment and find most of the family working.  You can usually get a barrel tasting, talk to the winemaker, and it's all complimentary.  This is a true Calistoga find!
